Okay, so my dad likes his lap robe, even if it is bright orange (two colors: tangerine and pumpkin), white, and blue (again, two colors: light blue and a medium blue). It's a non-pattern I made up myself, and it's great for using up your stash of worsted. I used size 17 circular needles, and four strands of worsted weight acrylic yarn (mostly Red Heart Super Saver and Caron's Simply Soft). Holding 4 strands together, cast on 50 stitches. You can cast on more, but 50 was all my circs could handle. This project is knit flat, by the way, not in the round. Simply knit every row until it's the length you want. It makes for a very thick, cuddly, drape-y (not a word, but you know what I mean) garter stitch fabric that stretches lengthwise and width-wise. It is heavy, too!
P.S. In December 2007, while we were at the coast, Daddy and I sat down for a couple minutes on a bench outside a store while my bro went to fetch the car. A little boy and his mom walked by, and the little boy's eyes popped open wide as he took in Daddy's white beard and jolly smile.
"Are you Santa?" asked the little boy.
"Yes," said Daddy.
"All right!" said the little boy, grinning ear to ear.
