Finished socks and SNOW!

I finally finished the Patons Stretch Socks! I started them in September, but had to keep putting them aside in order to work on gift projects for the holidays and birthdays. This yarn was a little odd to work with at first because it is so stretchy (I heartily recommend nickle-plated needles rather than bamboo or wood, because this yarn is a bit 'sticky') but I like it quite a lot.

Bertie Wooster seems to be hoping they're edible socks.

We got SNOW last night. Those of you in areas of the world where snow is commonplace are probably going "Meh." But around here, a genunie blanketing snowfall is rather rare. It's lovely to look at, but I'm glad I don't have to drive in it. The schools and most businesses are closed, or at least on delayed opening schedules. Inclement weather tends to freak out folks in these parts. At the mere mention of snow, everyone goes racing off to the grocery to buy up eggs, bread and milk. (I've lived here all my life, and I still don't understand what that's about. Does everyone think they'll have to exist on French toast for days on end?) I had to do some shopping yesterday (dog food: one of life's necessities), and the grocery store looked like it had been raided by a post-toke-and-toga-party fraternity.

Anyway, here's a shot of the woods behind the house, and an across-the-pasture shot of the woods beside the house.

Edit: I don't know what the heck is wrong with the font size here. I've tried to fix it so it's uniform, but it doesn't seem to be working. Grrr.

  1. I just saw your tuxedo cat and your cat and mine look almost the same!!! I have a tuxedo cat that my husband and I rescued from a our alley this past June (2008). We call her Midnight and she is a terror at times LOL!! But we love her. . .

  2. LOL! Those tuxedo kitties can be a riot, can't they? We have three: Bertie Wooster, his adopted sibling Stormy (her photo is also on the blog somewhere; look under the posts with cat or kitten labels), and Luna, whose real name is Lunatic, because she is one. I adopted Bertie last summer, when he was a teeny little 1.75 pounds. Now he weighs over 10 pounds, and I'm really wishing I hadn't taught him it was cute to sit on Mom's shoulder. :-)

  3. Snow is so pretty when you know it isnt going to last very long. : ) You are welcome to come up here to the frozen north of the 49th parallel to have some of ours. NOTHING - and I mean NOTHING - stops life from continuing around here. Only once this winter did my kids get to school late. I thought the car wouldnt start because of the cold, but it turns out that one of the kids left a light on in the van and drained the battery. Even our vehicles are hardy! Good thing they plug in.

  4. Ummmmyeeeeah, thanks for the invite, Darcie, but I'm far too wimpy to survive the temperatures common to the frozen north! It was 19 degrees this morning when I woke up, and I just groaned. I'd imagine that 19 degrees is balmy to you. :-)
